Frequently Asked Questions About Fire Pits
What do I need to know about setting up my fire pit once it arrives? You will need to have two people to set up your fire pit (and we recommend four people for the GemStone). You (or your plumbing/HVAC professional) can hook up your fire pit to a propane tank or an existing Natural Gas/Propane gas line. Our units have an 18-inch flexible hose with a standard 3/8-inch flare fitting which will attach to a valve or fitting on your gas line.
Where can I put my fire pit? GraceStone fire pits are recommended for the patio, the poolside, the deck, or the lawn. If using on either the deck (please check your local fire codes first) or the lawn, we recommend running a course of firebricks beneath the fire pit. For the lawn, it's best to have your pad of fire bricks an inch or two wider than the fire pit. This keeps your lawnmower or weedeater from marring the finish on your fire pit.
How long will it take to install my fire pit? Less than an hour for the "hands on" person.
Can I move my fire pit if I don’t like where I decided to put it? Yes. In fact, there are some who want it by the pool in the summer and on the patio in the winter. Gravity is the only thing that holds our fire pits down, so you’re free to move it anywhere you like (once the gas line is detached).
Can I put my fire pit inside my house? No! Our fire pits are designed for outside use only.
Can I use either natural gas or LP with my fire pit? Yes and No. Each type of gas requires a different brass fitting and orifice. When you order, specify which type of gas you'll be using and we'll install the appropriate orifice before shipping. If you should change gas types later, you can purchase a conversion kit from us for $30.
What can you tell me about the burner? The burner assembly is hidden beneath the logs and lava rock. The burner ring is made from stainless steel and we cover it under warranty for one year.
Can you do custom colors on the fire pits? Yes. For a premium of $100, we will use the Sherwin Williams color of your choice.
Can I purchase an unfinished fire pit so that I may stain it myself? Yes. In fact, we won’t even charge you anything extra for that!
Can I burn wood in my fire pit? NO!!! Because of the intense heat generated by a wood fire, your fire pit will crack.
DO NOT burn wood in your Gas Fire Pit!
